Finding your first logistics job in Cameroon: where should you start?

You want a logistics job, but advertisements mention shipments, inventory, transport and transit. Start by identifying tasks you can already explain, then target an appropriate entry role. Understanding the work matters more than an impressive title.

Choose an entry point

Depending on the employer, a beginner may target an internship or a role supporting logistics, shipping, receiving or document tracking. Education and experience requirements differ, so read each advertisement. Studying logistics does not automatically qualify you for a management role.

List your existing skills: data entry, filing, Excel, counting, supplier communication or organising an association activity. Identify tasks you still need to learn under supervision.

Use several search terms

On Kamerjob, try “assistant logistique”, “logistique”, “transit”, “expédition” and “magasinier” separately. Compare responsibilities, location, hours and application instructions. These are search suggestions, not a guarantee of available vacancies.

Whether in Douala, Yaoundé or elsewhere, check the actual workplace and travel costs. A company’s head-office location does not establish where every assignment takes place.

Build your first application

Prepare a readable CV, professional contact address and tailored message. Do not claim port experience you do not have.

“Hello, I am applying for the logistics assistant position. During my internship, I helped organise supporting documents and update a tracking spreadsheet under supervision. I can present a fictional delivery-tracking exercise. Please find my CV attached.”

If you have no internship, clearly identify academic or personal projects. Create a practice tracker for three fictional orders showing the reference, quantity, planned date, status and next action.

Organise your search week

StagePractical action
PrepareChoose two target roles and tailor your CV
SearchRead duties and check advertisement conditions
ApplyUse the requested channel and record the date
Follow upSend a measured reminder if an announced timeline has passed

Maintain an application log to avoid duplicates and retrieve the vacancy before a call. A focused application is more useful than an identical message sent without reading the requirements.

Clarify conditions before starting

Ask about duties, supervision, workplace, hours, any remuneration and necessary equipment. Visiting a warehouse does not authorise you to operate machinery or handle loads without appropriate instruction and training.

Verify the employer and recruitment process. A request to pay to reserve a job deserves further checks. Aim for a first position with clear responsibilities and an identified supervisor who can support your learning.
