Finding a driver job in Cameroon: where should you start?

Do you hold a driving licence and want to find work in Cameroon? Start with roles matching the vehicles you are authorised to drive and your actual experience. Personal driver, delivery driver, bus driver and truck driver positions have different responsibilities and requirements.

This guide explains how to read a Kamerjob advert, prepare your documents and send a relevant application. The screenshots below were taken on 18 October 2026: always check the current advert’s status and deadline.

1. Choose a role that fits your profile

  • Personal or executive driver: employer travel, punctuality, discretion and route knowledge.
  • Delivery driver: goods transport, delivery documents, customer contact and sometimes loading duties.
  • Taxi or ride-hailing driver: passenger transport and operating arrangements to clarify with the owner or partner.
  • Truck driver: specific vehicles, transport documents and experience suited to the required journeys.
  • Bus, NGO or specialised driving: passenger transport, organisational procedures and qualifications specified in each advert.

Do not assume that one licence or experience with one vehicle qualifies you for every other type. Note the category requested by the employer and check its suitability for the vehicle and applicable rules. Forklift and machinery operation are also specialities to check separately.

2. Learn to read a Kamerjob advert

On the driver vacancies page, also search for “chauffeur-livreur”, “conducteur” or “driver” to find different job titles. Open the full advert and check the location, licence, experience, duties, application channel and deadline.

Example: truck drivers in Kribi

The KM International advert for twenty truck drivers specified a valid category CE licence, current national identity card, delivery paperwork and a journey log. When captured, it displayed a deadline of 19 October 2026. The contract, hours and salary were not specified: ask about them rather than assuming the terms.

Example: delivery driving in Douala

The Tim Hills Cameroon advert for two delivery drivers requested a category C licence, at least two years’ experience and knowledge of Douala and the surrounding area. Duties included obtaining signatures on delivery documents and reporting vehicle faults. Use it to understand the role, and check its status before applying.

3. Prepare a simple, accurate CV

Include your town, a reachable phone number, licence category and validity. Describe the vehicle types you have driven, areas you know and duties performed. Avoid publishing your licence number or identity card copy in a publicly accessible portfolio.

Fictional template to adapt:

“Driver — [town]. Valid category [category] licence. Experience driving [vehicle] in [setting], from [date] to [date]. Route planning, routine vehicle care following instructions and reporting faults. Available from [date].”

If your driving was mainly for a family, personal business or occasional assignments, explain that clearly. It can demonstrate practical experience, but does not replace the years of professional driving required by some adverts. Only list referees who have agreed to be contacted.

Starting out? Target adverts accepting your level and support roles compatible with your qualifications. A driver’s assistant job does not guarantee progression to driving: ask about its duties and training opportunities.

4. Send an application tailored to the advert

Use the specified channel: email, WhatsApp, online form or physical submission. Prepare a readable PDF such as “CV_Firstname_Lastname_Driver.pdf” and any documents actually requested, after verifying the recruiter.

“Hello, I am contacting you about the [job title] position in [town], advertised on Kamerjob. I hold a valid category [category] licence and have experience in [actual setting]. I know [area] and can perform [two tasks you can handle]. My CV is attached. I am available from [date]. Thank you.”

If a specific email subject is required, copy it exactly. Do not send identity documents to a contact whose connection with the recruitment you have not verified, and do not pay for a promise of employment.

5. Clarify the conditions before accepting

Ask about gross or net pay, payment date, hours, rest, travel and mission expenses. Check who supplies the vehicle, arranges maintenance and receives reports of faults or incidents. For taxi or ride-hailing work, clarify the expected takings and allocation of costs; money you must hand over to the owner is not your salary.

If a driving test is proposed, ask about its format, duration, supervision and the vehicle’s use and insurance arrangements. Do not agree to drive a vehicle you are not qualified for or accept a situation you consider dangerous.

Keep a simple record of the role, employer, link, application date and next action. Set aside time each day to check adverts and tailor a few applications. Monitor your messages and prepare two concrete examples of punctuality, organisation or reporting a problem.
