How to prepare for a logistics or transit job interview

A logistics or transit interview is not simply a definitions test. Employers want to understand how you track an operation, verify information and communicate when a file is blocked. Prepare specific examples suited to the role and your experience.
Review the advertisement first
Identify the main duties: transport, documents, receiving, shipping or coordination. Note tools, languages and availability requirements. A document-support interview differs from an operations-management interview.
Prepare a one-minute introduction covering your training, relevant experience, actual tasks and reason for applying. Do not invent responsibilities to fit the advertisement.
“I have logistics training and an internship in document tracking. I maintained a register of received documents and prepared follow-ups under supervision. I would like to develop my shipment-tracking skills.”

Prepare three real situations
Choose examples of organisation, a discrepancy and communication. Explain the context, responsibility, actions and observable result. An academic project is acceptable when clearly labelled as a simulation.
| Question | What to demonstrate |
|---|---|
| How do you track several files? | References, statuses, confirmed deadlines and next actions |
| What if two documents conflict? | Checking, escalation and clarification without improvised changes |
| A customer requests a definite date | Distinguishing estimates from confirmation |
Practise a delay scenario
Fictional exercise: a carrier reports a delay but cannot confirm a revised time. The recipient expects delivery that day.
“I check the status and timestamp of the latest information. I request an updated estimate from the carrier, alert my supervisor and prepare a recipient update containing confirmed facts and the next update time. I do not promise an arrival I cannot confirm.”
This is not a universal procedure. Company instructions and responsibility limits guide the response.
Show your tools honestly
If requested, bring a readable fictional tracker. Be ready to explain a filter, status and formula you use. An assessment may test verification as much as typing speed.
If a question exceeds your knowledge, explain what you would check and with whom. Saying you have not performed a task is stronger than inventing a process. Prepare a short introduction and professional message matching your actual language level.
Ask useful questions
- Which flows and files will I support?
- Who approves documents and status changes?
- Which tools and training are provided?
- What are the workplace, hours, travel requirements and proposed conditions?
Before a test, clarify its length, purpose and data requirements. Do not provide former employers’ confidential files. After the interview, record the discussion and announced response timeline for any follow-up.
