Finding your first networking and IT support job in Cameroon

If you have studied IT or learned through practice, start by identifying tasks you can genuinely perform. Then build evidence that matches those tasks. A focused application is more useful than a long list of technologies.
1. Search for suitable roles
On Kamerjob, try terms such as “IT technician”, “IT support”, “helpdesk”, “networking” and “IT assistant”, as well as their French equivalents. Read the duties: a role may combine user assistance, workstation setup and basic network tasks, while another expects independent administration.
Check location, travel, working hours, experience requirements and tools. Confirm the listing’s status and deadline rather than assuming it is still open.
2. Build three simple examples
- A workstation setup with a documented checklist.
- A connectivity diagnosis on a network you are authorised to use.
- A sample user request with updates and confirmation of resolution.
Use a personal computer or virtual machines. State any equipment limitations and distinguish simulated exercises from real interventions.
3. Match your CV to the vacancy
Fictional example: “Junior IT support candidate. Personal project: prepared two virtual workstations, configured a lab network, ran tests and wrote a user guide. Based in Douala; travel availability to be discussed.”
Include internships, voluntary assistance and languages you actually use. Explain which tasks you can perform independently and where you still need guidance.
4. Keep your application message specific
“Hello, I am applying for the IT support technician role. My internship and practical exercises involved documenting workstation and connectivity incidents. I have attached my CV and a personal project summary, which I would be happy to discuss.”
5. Track applications
Record the employer, role, date, vacancy link and response. Prepare questions about supervision, support tools and service priorities. Choose opportunities that fit your current ability and offer room to develop.
