Finding your first teaching job in Cameroon: where to start

Looking for your first teaching job in Cameroon? Start by identifying the subject, level and setting in which you can work. A useful application shows subject knowledge, preparation and the ability to support learning, alongside your actual qualifications.
1. Choose a suitable role
A vacancy may concern nursery, primary school, a secondary subject, training or tutoring. Requirements differ. Check qualifications, pedagogical training, experience, teaching language and stated conditions. Subject knowledge alone does not necessarily meet every school requirement.
On Kamerjob, compare titles and duties. Record the link, date, requested documents and next action. Distinguish school employment, internships and private tutoring services.
2. Prepare simple evidence
- A CV with accurate qualifications and clearly described experience.
- A lesson plan for a specific level.
- An exercise with an answer guide and explanation.
Observation placements, family tutoring or community activities may demonstrate skills, but should not be presented as years of classroom responsibility. Distinguish what you observed, prepared or delivered under supervision.
3. Create a first demonstration
Fictional exercise: prepare a short lesson on reading a timetable for learners with defined prior knowledge. Use an invented transport timetable. Ask learners to identify a departure time and explain their answer. Include clear instructions, feedback and support for learners who confuse columns.
Label this as a personal project to adapt to the curriculum and school instructions. It demonstrates preparation, not measured effectiveness from a lesson you have never delivered.
4. Target the application message
Adaptable example: “I am applying for the advertised subject and level. My application includes my qualifications, actual experience and a personal lesson plan. I can explain its objectives, instructions and how I would check understanding.”
Send the requested documents in a readable format. Check file names, recipient details and access to any portfolio link.
5. Clarify expectations
Ask about classes, group size, curricula, languages, schedules and resources. Clarify mentoring, marking, meetings, family communication and job conditions. Ask about pupil safeguarding rules and how to report concerns.
Your aim is to demonstrate careful preparation and willingness to learn within the school’s framework.
