Maintenance internship: how to showcase observation and supervised work?

An internship is more than repairs personally performed. Understanding equipment, recording symptoms, preparing forms and observing checks can demonstrate learning. Define your role clearly.
Distinguish participation levels
| Level | Possible wording |
|---|---|
| Observation | Observed work and recorded its stages |
| Support | Prepared documents and entered data under supervision |
| Supervised execution | Completed a specific assigned task checked by the supervisor |
Do not replace observed with performed to expand a CV. Well-understood observation can be explained precisely.

Keep a learning record
Record equipment family, purpose, contribution, documents and open questions. Follow site rules on notes, photos and approved information.
A fictional example might include a report received, history reviewed, draft record and supervisor approval. Exclude real installation drawings and parameters.
Write CV statements
“Maintenance internship: observed planned interventions, supported form preparation and recorded findings under supervision.”
Name authorised tasks actually performed without implying responsibility for the whole machine. Give dates and context rather than invented volumes.
Explain learning
Describe distinctions learned: symptom versus cause, completed task versus available equipment, entered record versus approved closure.
“I learned to separate actions, checks and reservations in reports. I prepared the record; the supervising technician confirmed final status.”
Do not claim to eliminate failures without supporting data.
Prepare an appropriate portfolio
Create a fictional record based on a general structure and label it as an exercise. Obtain approval before sharing internship documents; removing a company name may be insufficient.
Explain what you can repeat, what requires help and how you would check instructions. Clear distinctions between experience, learning and next steps make a junior application credible.
