Customer satisfaction: how to present results without inventing figures?

A figure strengthens an application only when you can explain its origin. A 95% satisfaction claim without period, source or definition is difficult to defend. Present actual evidence and contribution limits.

Define the measure

Requests received, replies sent, resolved cases and satisfaction ratings are different measures. Fast replies may leave issues open; administrative closure does not prove satisfaction.

Specify period, scope, channel and authorised source. Do not forward internal reports to personal accounts for CV preparation.

Understand a simple calculation

In a fictional binary survey, 40 people respond and 32 rate the service positively: 32 ÷ 40 × 100 = 80% positive responses. This follows the CSAT formula described in Zendesk’s customer satisfaction guide.

If 100 people were invited, the response rate is 40%. The 80% therefore does not necessarily describe all customers contacted. Define positive ratings when using multi-point scales.

Separate individual and team outcomes

A team score is not your personal score. Explain actions you performed: follow-up, clarification, tracking or template improvements. A later change alone does not prove you caused it.

“Contributed to request follow-up and response-template updates within the team. Results were monitored collectively using service indicators.”

Use non-numerical evidence

Explain a completed file, corrected information or handover enabling a colleague to continue. Verifiable facts are useful without confidential data.

Prepare for questions

Explain the calculation, period and limitations. Without reliable authorised data, use qualitative wording. Never claim this article’s fictional figures as professional achievements; they demonstrate reasoning only.
