How to succeed in an interview for a virtual assistant assignment

A virtual assistant interview checks your skills and remote-working habits. Prepare examples demonstrating independence, communication and how you clarify uncertain requests.

1. Introduce your service in one minute

“I can help track requests and prepare documents. My experience comes from on-site administrative tasks and demonstration exercises. I work with agreed priorities and progress updates.”

Adapt this to your real background. Do not promise constant availability to compensate for limited experience.

2. Prepare three situations

  • An unclear request and the questions you asked.
  • Two urgent tasks and how you obtained a priority decision.
  • An error you detected, corrected and reported.

Use authorised real examples or clearly fictional exercises. Explain context, action, checks and limits.

3. Practise a scenario

Fictional example: a client asks you to send “the final document” to a partner. Check version, recipient, attachments and permission to send. If two versions conflict, ask rather than guess.

4. Prepare the call

Test sound, camera if needed and connectivity. Keep a portfolio sample ready and agree a fallback channel for interruptions. For bilingual work, demonstrate both languages at your actual level.

5. Clarify the assignment

Ask about priorities, volume, deliverable approval, working hours, response times, tools and access. Clarify fees, payment dates and any test conditions. Afterwards, restate agreed points and outstanding questions.
