Farm worker: questions to ask before accepting an assignment

Before accepting farm work, clarify tasks and conditions. These questions help you plan travel, understand pay and identify necessary instructions.
1. Confirm place and contact
Ask for the exact location, access, receiving contact and duration. Verify the organisation. For a Kamerjob listing, check details and deadline: an old advertisement may be useful as an example without remaining open.
2. Clarify the work
Which crop, operation and volume? Individual work or a team? Who demonstrates and checks the task? Ask about machinery, agricultural products or particular loads and the training provided.
3. Understand payment
| Pay basis | Useful question |
|---|---|
| Daily | Which hours, breaks and agreed daily amount? |
| Per task | Which unit, criteria and person approving completion? |
| Several days | When is payment due and what happens if plans change? |
Ask whether transport, meals or accommodation are included or deducted. “We will work it out” is not a clear agreement.
4. Check practical arrangements
Who provides suitable tools and protection? Where are water, breaks and ways to raise an alert? What happens after injury, difficulty or weather disruption? Learn the farm’s procedures.
5. Confirm before travelling
Fictional message: “I confirm I can attend Monday’s harvest at the stated location. Please confirm hours, agreed amount, payment date and supervisor. Are tools and protection provided?”
