Shelf stocking: how to demonstrate accuracy in displays and labelling

Careful shelf stocking helps customers find the right product and supports the team. Explain your checks rather than simply saying you can arrange goods. Employers need to understand how you identify and report differences.

1. Check products and locations

Compare references, pack sizes and intended locations according to instructions. Similar-looking products can have different sizes and prices. Do not use any empty space when the store follows a display plan.

Check assigned quantities and report differences. Follow storage, handling and equipment instructions. Do not climb shelving to reach goods.

2. Explain a label check

Fictional exercise: a label identifies a 250 g pack while the item above is 500 g. Compare references and report the mismatch. Have the authorised person confirm placement or labelling; do not invent a price.

Missing labelReference and locationRequest an approved label
Empty spaceAvailability through approved tools and instructionsReplenish or report shortage
Damaged packagingObserve without opening the productFollow the handling procedure

3. Track dates and problems

Explain how you check dates and apply the store’s rotation instructions. Do not treat every date label as equivalent or independently decide that an item may remain on sale. Refer uncertainties to the supervisor.

Apply the same care to packaging damage, leaks and misplaced items. Describe facts and follow procedure instead of hiding the problem behind other goods.

4. Help customers

Keep access clear and respond politely. Check information rather than assuming an item is available. Inform the team before leaving a sensitive task.

Interview wording: “I check the reference, location and label. If something differs, I report it before making changes. I keep access clear and record handover points.”

5. Show your method

Create a fictional record with area, reference, finding, requested action and status. It demonstrates organisation, not authority to set prices. For actual experience, explain your role and the supervisor’s approval.

Compare these examples with Kamerjob vacancies and select those matching the store’s duties.
