Preventive and corrective maintenance: how to showcase your experience?
Have you supported scheduled checks and work following malfunctions? Present them separately so recruiters understand the purpose and contribution. A generic machine-servicing label hides different tasks.
Explain the purpose
Preventive maintenance aims to reduce failure or deterioration risk through a defined programme. Corrective work addresses an identified malfunction. IBM’s preventive maintenance guide explains anticipation of failures.
Describe the actual context: scheduled work, condition observation or response to a report. Taking a measurement does not automatically establish predictive-maintenance experience.

Describe preventive contributions
“Supported planned work through record preparation, instructed observations and supervised entry of outstanding points.”
Identify equipment family, period and documents without disclosing internal parameters. Do not invent universal intervals; approved plans and instructions determine tasks.
Describe corrective contributions
“Supported malfunction follow-up by collecting symptoms, reviewing history and drafting records after the supervising technician’s intervention.”
If you performed an operation, identify it and supervision or authorisation limits. Separate suspected from confirmed causes.

Present measured results
A documented task, reported observation or approved report is useful evidence. Explain period, baseline and other factors behind any reduced-failure claim. Replacement alone does not prove elimination of the original cause.
