Machine Learning Engineer: how to prepare your application from Cameroon

Applying for a Machine Learning Engineer role from Cameroon? A list of libraries on your CV is insufficient. Your application should show how you turn data into an evaluated, reproducible and useful system while matching the vacancy’s specific requirements.
This guide draws on Kamerjob adverts identified on 18 October 2026. Deadlines and remote-work descriptions are those displayed; reconfirm recruitment and conditions on the employer’s website.
1. Start with the vacancy, not a generic CV
The Wynd Labs (Grass) Machine Learning Engineer advert lists Python and LLMs. The Ritual advert mentions Python, PyTorch and TensorFlow. Both listings display a 21 October 2026 deadline and refer applicants to an external application process.

Identify responsibilities, essential skills and seniority. Match each with truthful evidence: a project, experience, code or documented result. Distinguish production use, personal practice and topics you have only studied.
2. Present an end-to-end project
Choose one or two projects you can explain and reproduce. Document the problem, data origin and usage rights, preparation, baseline, evaluation choices and observed errors. Personal projects are useful when clearly labelled.
Fictional example: “Order-volume forecasting prototype using authorised public data. I compare a simple method with a trained model, explain the time-based split and analyse failure cases.”
Include a README covering installation, execution, dependencies, tests and limitations. Do not publish API keys, client data or an employer’s code without permission.
3. Explain evaluation rather than just showing a score
State the metric and why it suits the problem. Compare with the baseline and identify the data used for measurement. Keep test data separate from development choices; splitting should respect the context, including time or relevant groups.
The official scikit-learn common-pitfalls documentation explains leakage risks and how pipelines help with certain preprocessing steps. A pipeline does not replace an appropriate split.
For an LLM project, describe test cases, quality criteria and incorrect responses. If measuring latency or cost, specify conditions. A few successful demonstrations do not establish system reliability.
4. Show engineering skills too
Depending on the role, an employer may expect a usable service, API, tests, error handling or operational monitoring. Show what you actually built and explain what remains a prototype.
CV template, to complete only with real results: “Personal project — [objective]. Built [component] in Python. Evaluated through [method] on [test set]. Measured result: [verified value]. Limitation: [failure case]. Link: [authorised repository].”
Do not claim Docker, cloud, MLOps or a framework merely because it appeared in a tutorial. Be ready to explain decisions and your individual contribution to teamwork.
5. Clarify remote work from Cameroon
“Remote” does not guarantee eligibility from every country. Even when Kamerjob mentions Cameroon, check the original vacancy and seek confirmation where necessary.
- Accepted countries of residence and contracting arrangements from Cameroon.
- Proposed status, availability hours and time-zone overlap.
- Working language, equipment, technical access and connection expectations.
- Pay, currency, schedule, payment method and any fees.
Explain your actual internet and power arrangements without promising continuity you cannot provide. Do not infer undisclosed pay.
6. Prepare for the interview and technical task
Practise explaining a project in a few minutes: problem, data, method, evaluation, contribution and limitations. Prepare for “Why this model?”, “How did you avoid data leakage?” and “What would you do if performance declined?”
Before a task, clarify expected time, deliverables and rules on resources and AI assistance. Follow those rules and disclose assistance when required. Verify file provenance and do not share secrets or confidential professional documents.
7. Send a targeted application
Template: “Hello, I am applying for [role]. Based in [city], Cameroon, I have completed [relevant project/experience]. My application includes [evidence matching the requirement] and the project’s limitations. I would welcome a discussion about the role and collaboration arrangements from Cameroon.”
