Teacher applications: how to present a lesson plan to an employer

A lesson plan can show how you turn a topic into a learning activity. For recruitment, match the requested level and explain your choices. Attractive formatting does not replace a clear objective and understandable instructions.
1. Define what learners should be able to do
Specify level, prior knowledge, duration and topic. Use an observable objective: finding information, explaining a method or solving a suitable exercise. Avoid an objective as broad as “understand everything about fractions”.
Check the school’s curriculum. For a personal demonstration without a real class, state assumptions and adaptations that need confirmation.
2. Build a short session
Fictional example, to adapt to the level: read a price table and calculate a simple total. The prices and business are invented, not actual rates.
| Stage | Planned activity | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Starting point | Find an item and its price. | The learner identifies the correct row. |
| Guided example | Add XAF 200 and XAF 300. | The learner explains the XAF 500 total. |
| Individual attempt | Offer another pair of prices. | Observe the method as well as the answer. |
| Feedback | Review an error and offer another attempt. | Identify what is understood and what needs work. |
Specify materials, instructions and realistic timing. This is a preparation example, not an officially prescribed lesson.
3. Anticipate a difficulty
If a learner confuses rows, enlarge the table, guide the search and try again. If calculation is the problem, revisit the method with a suitable example. Explain how you would help without humiliating the learner.
Prepare a relevant extension for those who finish early. It should support the same objective rather than add unrelated work.
4. Explain how you check learning
Alongside asking “do you understand?”, use a short task or ask for an explanation. Tell the employer what you would observe and how it affects the next step. A correct answer with substantial help differs from independent work.
Use fictional examples in your portfolio. Real pupil work and personal data remain protected.
5. Present the plan in an interview
“The objective is to read the table and justify a total. I start with locating information, guide one example and then check individually. If reading the table is the obstacle, I adjust the material before moving on.”
Prepare a printable version and an option without a projector. Follow the employer’s instructions and match the Kamerjob vacancy’s duties.
