Junior QHSE CV: how to highlight internships and skills

A junior QHSE CV should show what you can observe, check and track. Internships, coursework and early assignments provide useful evidence when your contribution is clear. Avoid listing standards or qualities you cannot explain.

1. Choose an appropriate title

Match the role and your level: QHSE intern, quality assistant or HSE assistant, as applicable. State your actual qualification and one relevant skill. Do not turn an observation placement into a management role.

2. Explain tasks and supervision

Vague wordingMore precise wording, when true
QHSE managementUpdated the action tracker under the supervisor’s review.
AuditSupported a visit through notes and a draft report for approval.
Awareness workSupported a session using approved material.

Give dates, sector and role. Distinguish observation, preparation, delivery and approval. Attribute decisions to close actions or authorise work to the competent person.

3. Describe training accurately

Provide the title, organisation, date and type of evidence. An introductory course does not make you a certified auditor. An employer’s certification is not your personal certification. Prepare to explain what you actually studied and how it is used.

For tools, describe tasks such as filtering, tracking due dates, controlling versions or preparing summaries. A software name alone says little.

4. Add a demonstrable project

Fictional exercise: create six invented observations with date, finding, reference, proposed action, owner to confirm and expected evidence. Explain how you identify overdue actions while keeping the history.

Project wording: “Academic project using fictional data: prepared an observation record and action tracker, distinguishing reported completion from verified closure.”

Do not describe this as client work. Do not attach confidential reports, real incident photographs or employee names.

5. Use verifiable results

For figures, give scope, period and contribution. The number of records entered is not an accident reduction rate. An action marked complete does not by itself prove effectiveness. Without reliable, shareable measurements, explain your method.
