Virtual assistant CV and portfolio: what to show without remote experience

Experience in reception, sales, an association or an office can support a move into remote assistance. Keep the original context clear, then add exercises showing your digital organisation.
1. Translate tasks accurately
Maintaining a register, scheduling an appointment and writing meeting notes are useful skills. Keep your real role and explain your contribution. Occasional family assistance should not become a fictional assignment for an international client.
| Experience | Possible wording, if accurate |
|---|---|
| Reception | Recorded requests and referred them to the appropriate people. |
| Association | Prepared meeting invitations and summaries. |
| Personal project | Created an administrative tracker using fictional data. |
2. Prepare three short samples
Create a task tracker, one-page meeting summary and demonstration calendar. Include the brief, steps, result and checks. Name tool functions you actually used.
3. Explain remote-work preparation
Example to adapt: “On-site administrative experience; preparing for remote assistance through tracking, writing and document-sharing exercises. Available during agreed hours with progress reporting.”
Describe equipment realistically. Do not promise connectivity or backup power you have not tested.
4. Make the portfolio accessible
Use a readable CV and lightweight portfolio. Share read-only samples, test links and use fictional data. Obtain permission before publishing material from a previous organisation.
5. Prepare to explain your work
State what you did independently, what help you received and what would require client approval. Demonstrate transferable skills without overstating remote experience.
