New teacher CV: how to highlight placements and private tutoring

A new teacher’s CV should explain your training, the learners you supported and your actual responsibilities. Placements and tutoring can provide useful evidence when you distinguish observation, preparation, supervised teaching and independent responsibility.
1. State the subject and level
Choose a title matching the vacancy and your background. In your profile, mention your actual qualification and a teaching skill you can explain. Do not add certifications you have not earned.
Adaptable example: “Entry-level teaching candidate with maths tutoring experience. Prepared exercises, explained methods and tracked difficulties. Seeking a role matching my qualification and the required level.”
2. Describe experience precisely
| Context | Details to include |
|---|---|
| Placement | Dates, observed level, preparation tasks and supervision. |
| Private tutoring | Subject, level, frequency and follow-up method. |
| Educational activities | Audience, objective, activity and team contribution. |
Do not describe occasional help to a relative as school employment. Informal experience is useful when labelled honestly.
3. Turn qualities into actions
“Good at explaining” becomes stronger with evidence: “Prepared progressive exercises and reviewed recurring errors with the learner.” “Organised” can become: “Planned sessions and tracked topics covered.”
Fictional wording example: “Personal tutoring: prepared reading sessions, used short exercises and adjusted instructions after checking understanding.” Use this only if it reflects your work; otherwise, label your example as a practice project.
4. Present results carefully
Do not guarantee examination success or invent improvement figures. For measured results, explain the period and comparison while protecting privacy. A higher grade can have several causes; do not automatically attribute it entirely to your intervention.
You can describe observations: clearer understanding of instructions, a learner explaining a method or a recurring error identified. Separate what you observed from what you infer.
5. Add appropriate teaching evidence
Prepare a personal lesson plan, exercise and answer guide. Use fictional learner work in public materials. Do not share identifiable reports, names, photographs or pupil work to prove experience.
Ask referees before listing their contact details. Check dates and prepare a concrete explanation of each CV claim.
Tailor the CV to Kamerjob teaching vacancies, including only skills you can demonstrate.
