Cashier or shelf-stocker CV: how to highlight your experience

A cashier or shelf-stocker CV should show reliability through concrete tasks. Informal sales or family business experience can help when you explain what you did, how often and with what responsibility.

1. Choose a suitable title

Use the relevant vacancy title: cashier, shelf stocker or general store assistant. Your profile should state actual experience, one important skill and your objective. Do not claim checkout software experience you do not have.

Adaptable example: “Reception and sales experience in a family business. Checked quantities, arranged goods and calculated change. Seeking a role with training in the store’s tools and procedures.”

2. Turn qualities into actions

QualitySpecific example, when true
AccuracyCompared received quantities with the supplied list.
OrganisationArranged product families and reported empty shelves.
Customer serviceWelcomed customers, checked information and referred requests.

Give dates or periods, context and contribution. Label occasional work correctly. Do not claim full stock management if you only replenished shelves.

3. Distinguish cashier tasks

Specify actual duties: manual calculations, checkout entry, payment checks or supervised counting. Watching a supervisor close the till does not make it your responsibility.

Use figures only when reliable and shareable. Do not invent sales volumes or a zero-error record. Without reliable figures, describe your checks and adherence to instructions.

4. Prepare a small demonstration

Fictional exercise: create five invented items with quantities, unit prices and totals. Add a deliberate quantity mistake, then explain how you identify and correct it in the exercise. Label the file as personal practice, not a real shop receipt.

You could also create a fictional shelf plan with a missing label and an empty space to report. Never attach real till records, customer details or a former employer’s internal documents.

5. Review before applying

  • Does the title match the role?
  • Are dates and activity status accurate?
  • Can you explain the tools listed?
  • Are your role and supervision clear?
  • Are contact details and the PDF readable?

Tailor your CV to Kamerjob vacancies. Precision makes your interview examples easier to explain.
