Connectivity, electricity and availability: how to prepare your remote-work setup

Remote work from Cameroon needs a setup matched to your actual circumstances. Plan how to inform the client, protect work in progress and resume with clear priorities after an interruption.
1. Test your working conditions
Try a call, document sharing and file upload at the planned working times and location. A connection suitable for email may not support a long video meeting.
Check actual laptop and phone battery life. Do not promise a full day of backup power without testing your equipment.
2. Prepare a realistic fallback
Depending on your means, test another connection, charge backup equipment or agree an alternative location. Consider cost, travel time and confidentiality. A public venue may not suit private discussions.
3. Match tasks to requirements
| Fictional task | Preparation |
|---|---|
| Video meeting | Test link, headset and fallback channel. |
| Formatting | Offline work only when the tool and client permit it. |
| Document sending | Check version and synchronisation first. |
4. Agree how to report interruptions
“If interrupted, I will notify you as soon as possible through our agreed channel, identify affected tasks and give a time for my next update without guaranteeing a recovery time I cannot control.”
Agree the fallback channel and contact details before starting.
5. Resume carefully
Check what was saved, synchronised or already sent. Avoid duplicates and confirm priorities if deadlines are affected. Keep files in approved storage and protect devices.
Explain actual availability and your continuity plan. A simple tested arrangement provides a stronger basis than a promise of uninterrupted service.
