One-day or one-week construction jobs: how to organise your search

A short assignment may start quickly and finish before another is confirmed. When looking for construction work in Cameroon, keep a simple record of available dates, adverts contacted, replies and agreed conditions. This can reduce wasted journeys and help you keep commitments.
An urgent advert guarantees neither a place nor several days of work. Always confirm exact dates and current availability with the listed contact.
1. Define your availability and travel area
Record the days you are genuinely free, your starting neighbourhood and areas you can reach at the required time. Plan the return transport cost, travel time and a way home after work.
Fictional example: “I am available Tuesday and Wednesday. I leave from Nyalla and can reach a site in [area] at [time], once the address and transport are confirmed.”
If you have already committed to a site, do not promise the same dates elsewhere. State your actual skills and whether you seek labourer work or a supervised assistant role.
2. Search Kamerjob using different terms
Browse Kamerjob vacancies using terms such as “manœuvre”, “manoeuvre”, “chantier”, “aide-maçon” or your trade. Read descriptions: duration may be mentioned there even when absent from the title.
A labourer advert for a one-week site assignment at Nyalla Campo illustrates this type of work. Checked on 18 October 2026, it is used as an example; wording such as “tomorrow” relates to its publication date and is not a current appointment.
Check the date, location, duties, duration and application method. Use the channel specified, whether WhatsApp, phone or another procedure. Avoid sending repeated identical messages to the same recruiter.
3. Keep a list with four statuses
A notebook or phone note is enough. For each advert, keep its link, role, area, advertised dates, contact date and next action.
- To contact: relevant advert, no discussion yet.
- Pending: application sent, no confirmed commitment.
- Confirmed: appointment and conditions clarified by the supervisor.
- Finished or unavailable: completed assignment, rejection or filled position.
Fictional example: “Site A — Wednesday — reply expected Monday. Site B — Thursday and Friday — confirmed with supervisor. Do not accept another Thursday assignment without resolving the conflict.”
No reply is not confirmation. You can continue searching while you have made no conflicting commitment.
4. Confirm before spending money on travel
“Hello, I am contacting you about [title/link]. I live in [neighbourhood], am available from [date] to [date] and have experience in [actual tasks]. Is the need still current? Which days, hours and duties are planned, and who is the supervisor?”
Then clarify the rate, actual number of planned days, payment date and method, breaks, any transport arrangements and equipment supplied or requested. Ask what happens if the work is postponed, interrupted or extended. A daily rate does not automatically mean payment every evening.
Keep written confirmation where possible. Verify the contact’s identity and do not pay an unverified person to reserve a job. Do not commit to dangerous duties without suitable training and supervision.
5. Compare the whole assignment
The advertised amount alone is insufficient: consider personal expenses, hours and how many days are confirmed. Do not confuse an estimate with guaranteed earnings.
Fictional calculation: five confirmed days at CFA 5,000 give advertised earnings of CFA 25,000. Transport of CFA 1,000 per day would leave CFA 20,000 after that expense alone. This is neither a recommended rate nor a wage benchmark; other costs and conditions still need checking.
At the end, record days and hours worked, payments received and amounts still due. Confirm whether further work is offered and obtain the supervisor’s agreement before using them as a reference.
Set a regular time to check new adverts and update availability. Also read how to clarify daily pay and how to prepare for your first day.
