Virtual assistant: what evidence of skills should you show a client?

A client hiring a virtual assistant needs reliable work without sharing an office. Present a few clear deliverables, explain their context and state your exact contribution.
1. Match evidence to the work
A request tracker, meeting summary and sample calendar demonstrate different skills. Explain the work rather than collecting tool screenshots. Label examples as personal exercises, internships, voluntary work or client work you are permitted to show.
| Skill | Possible evidence using fictional data |
|---|---|
| Organisation | Demonstration calendar with priorities and preparation time. |
| Accuracy | Tracker with owners, deadlines and next actions. |
| Communication | Clear email and summary of a fictional meeting. |
2. Explain your method
Fictional example: “I categorised twelve demonstration requests, identified missing information and prepared three drafts for approval. Sensitive actions remain pending client agreement.”
Include the brief, deliverable and final checks. Show how you interpret a request, handle ambiguity and review your work.
3. Make files easy to review
Use a lightweight PDF or read-only folder. Check links and filenames. Public examples must contain no passwords, real private messages or personal contacts.
4. Report accurate outcomes
A completed file or detected error is a useful result. Do not invent time savings or productivity claims. Acknowledge tutorials and assistance.
5. Offer a focused demonstration
Explain one example in two minutes: need, steps, checks and limit. Before a prospect’s test, clarify its duration, data, deliverable and any payment. Relevant evidence is more useful than promising to do everything.
